It all started in June 2023. I picked up my very first 12 kilograms of a Brazilian coffee in Parede - the first step I've made towards starting my own coffee roastery.
I always wanted yellow/ochre coffee bags and I got the first bags from a friend in Cologne who had no use for them - fate or coincidence?! Anyway, exactly the colour I was looking for.
My way to the roastery - no joke! Just me, blue skies and the sea. Walking to roast my first coffees in August 2023.
The very first batch I've roasted. I had written down a propper plan, when to adjust what and how. I was so thrilled that I forgot half of it and basically just followed my gut.
Cupping my first roasts was super exciting...maybe even more than that - I was a little bit afraid to fail to be honest. I had some coffees from other roasters on the cupping table as well and my coffees did really well.
...and then the first Espresso! I was so pumped, almost shaking while pulling the shot. It was running smooth, had a lovely colour, tasted great and put a big smile on my face.
My first prototype bags and my first orders. I was very happy with how the bags looked, especially with the logo, which was designed by a very talented friend.
In the first weeks, I was selling coffee in Portugal, shipping to Germany and the UK and sold out very quickly. Honestly, I did not expect that at all.
This is my beautiful girlfriend and my daughter. They supported me throughout the entire process of setting everything up and still do every day. In September 2023 we did a little trip to Ericeira - a little JUNE AND JULY promo tour. I know this town really well. I opened up a coffee and breakfast bar there back in 2017 with a very good friend. Good memories & always nice to come back after all those years.
