Breakfast types & morning brew

We rarely chat about how coffee pairs with food, so I want to highlight one of my favourite meals—breakfast. A lot of us kick off our day with a cup of coffee, and it’s probably one of the most popular meals to enjoy alongside it, especially when it comes to filter coffee.

Some folks just grab a quick cup, while others might have cereal with milk or yogurt, and then there are those who love a slice of toast with jam. And let’s not forget the classic full English breakfast that many people indulge in from time to time.

But what kind of breakfast really makes a cup of filter coffee stand out? Which flavours boost or complement the taste of your brew? Have you ever thought about this or noticed how your coffee tastes different with various breakfast options?

For me, a slice of sourdough with butter is the ideal start—add an egg, whether it’s boiled or scrambled, or maybe a slice of cheddar, and I’m set. That combo makes my morning coffee taste amazing. But sometimes I go for a yogurt bowl with homemade granola and fruit, and sadly, that tends to neutralise certain flavours in my coffee. Why does that happen? What’s the deal with certain flavour combinations?

I’d love to hear your thoughts!
